The Change Over

My mother arrived at our house two days before Naomi was born.  My father arrived a week ago.
They have been a wonderful help as we have introduced Naomi into our family and then for the past week as Josh was out of town for work.  But the time has arrived for them to pack their bags and head home to Texas.
And just as they prepare to leave we have welcomed Aunt Hillary to our home.  She is here to help, make us laugh, ease the transition and bring on some more fun.  What a wonderful family of help I have!

Another Project

You might remember the blog posts from last fall where I showed you Abigail's new desk.  We had originally found it at the free market a few years ago, all rusty and beat up.  We sanded, scrubbed and repainted the desk into the perfect set for Abigail.
Abigail loves her desk so much.  We knew at the time that the main problem was going to be that we had only one.  But there really isn't a great store to buy these all in one desks anymore.  But then this past spring something fun happened.  We were driving home from town and started to pass a truck.  The back of the truck was full of trash but at top was a desk.  I mentioned to Josh that I bet that truck is going to the transfer site.  Wouldn't it be fun to get that desk.  Josh just looked at me with the "are you serious" look.
But I was serious and so follow that truck we did.  And the couple in the truck was more than happy to hand over their well worn desk to us.  But here we are with a full car and no way to really get it home.  After some search around the dumpsters (transfer sites are great for finding things) we found a bit of electrical cord that we could use to tie down the hatch.
And bring home the new desk for Ethan.  This one, just like the other, needs a lot of work.  The body is rusted and the wood top will need to be replaced.  But with a woodworker in the family these things are all possible.  So with bits of time here or there Josh is going to take this desk apart and get to work.  Ethan is very excited for the day when he has a big boy desk just like his big sister.  Only problem now...we will have only two.  Lucky for us Naomi is still small enough not to care just yet.  We will have to keep our eyes out for number three.  I am learning you just never know where they will come from.

When we (Josh) put the deck in three years ago we were so happy to have a fun place to enjoy we just let it be.
But as the summer sun and rain has come and the winter snow has covered the wood each year we realize our treated wood needed a little more from us.
So the other day Josh set to work putting on sealant and waterproofing.  It was perfect timing as well, the next day it rained.  Fun to see the rain drops bead up and roll off the wood now instead of damaging our much loved deck.

3 Weeks

Our Naomi is three weeks old now.  My how time has already flown by.
Oh how she loves her daddy and he loves her.

Just For Her

This summer, with a lot of focus on Naomi, we decided to give Abigail the chance to have something that is entirely hers.  We signed her up for gymnastics class.
Once a week for a hour she has the chance to run, jump, tumble and learn in a setting with other little kids just her age.
Almost all pictures taken are blurry as she is in almost constant motion.
She loves this time of her week.  I do too as I watch her with a big grin on her face and the look of accomplishment she has.

Summer Solstice

This past weekend was a fun, and pretty important, one for Fairbanks, Alaska.  The celebration of the summer solstice in the land of the midnight sun is a pretty big deal to those of us that live here.  So much of our year is dark and cold that when it comes time to celebrate a day when it doesn't get dark at all we enjoy it to its fullest.
We took the kids to the street fair and enjoyed just being out in the sun, crowds and activity.
The real fun part of the day for the kids was the chance at a pony ride.
Abigail loved it, Ethan not so sure at first.
Even Naomi couldn't help but be excited about her first solstice.  She slept through a lot of it since that is what she does these days - sleeps all day so she can be up all night.  The sun doesn't set right...
Fire trucks, people, colors, music and fun
It was a day to be celebrated for sure!

Two Hands

When I consider what to put on the blog these days I don't have to worry too much about not having anything to say.  There is so much going on here, even with the rainy weather we have been having.
What I do have to consider is how much I am really going to say with each picture.  You see, typing with one hand takes a long time.
And with three little people about, one spare hand to type with isn't all that available - especially not two.  So once again I keep this post short because I know that my hands will be free someday soon and long wordy posts will return.  As wonderful as that will be it will be terribly disappointing too.  Happy Solstice weekend to you all from the land of the midnight sun!

The other day we tried something new for arts and cracks.
 It was fun,
 it was ticklish
 It was messy
 It made fun wrapping paper
It was just what a rainy day needed!

Our world around here right now involves babies.
With the presence of Naomi the kids are learning more and more about babies.  What they eat, how they sleep, how they spit up, clothing changes, diaper changes and all.  And as my "big" kids watch Naomi I get to watch them take care of their babies.
The doll babies around this house have been in high demand the past two weeks.  They are nursed, changed, carried, rocked, bathed and cared for
just like their sister.  The best way to learn is to watch.  But no matter how fun their baby dolls are, when Naomi enters the room it is only her that they both want.  Babies, babies - so very special and fun for all.

Father's Day

Yesterday was our day to celebrate the best dad I know.  But with the presence of a newborn in our home it wasn't a day of rest for Josh at all.
He didn't get to sleep in, he gave the big kids their breakfast solo, he mowed the lawn and helped take care of the kids all day.
And after everyone else had gone to bed exhausted he ate his store bought celebratory dessert by himself in the evening since no one else was left awake to join him.
And as I said I am sorry I couldn't give you a more special day he smiled and said, "but today, I got to be a dad."  Other years will be different and more restful for him I know but I also know that no matter what my kids are so blessed that this great man is their dad and there is nothing else he loves more.

Everyone is asking, "How are Ethan and Abigail adjusting to Naomi?"
The answer is GREAT.  And that is simply true because Grandma is in the house.  As I disappear to rest, nurse or heal the kids have Grandma who steps right in and fills the gap.  Oh how much fun a grandma can bring to a house.

Into The Woods

Years ago Josh built himself a really big swing in the wooded part of the yard.  While the kids still love their playground swing set over by the garden, adventures into the more wooded part of our property has reveled this treasure to them.
A bench big enough for two and a swing going fast enough to keep the bugs at bay, perfect!

Going Home

The days in the hospital went fast.  Soon it was time to head home and be back in the world full of more things than just our sweet new baby.  We had quite the welcome party.  Everyone is so happy to be back together.

Such Difference In One Week

Yesterday I was so full of memories of last week and just all that has happened in just a short seven days.
As embarrassing as this picture is I am happy to have it.  Oh how large and swollen I was.  Our last Sunday morning as a family of four.
This was taken yesterday.  Naomi's first Sunday at church and our first time out and about as a family of five.  Yes, just one week certainly can bring a lot of changes that is for sure.

Four Days

Blog posts that include lots of words, stories, memories and goals will return, someday.  But for today I once again just post some pictures.  Our girl is four days old today.  Four days ago we had yet to meet her but now that she is here it seems like she has been apart of this family forever.

Josh, Kathleen, Abigail, Ethan and Naomi - our family.  Names just a few years ago I never would have put together but now they are set.  This is who we are.

A Sister

They both love her so much.  The only problem is figuring out who's turn it is to hold her.

Tree Disaster of 2017

We had quite the tree drama this year.  After years and years of real trees from the woods I was done with the needles.  DONE.  Last year A...
